New edition released January 2009
Providence: Miles Champion & Jane South
Sienese Shredder Editions is proud to present Providence, the fourth limited edition portfolio in its acclaimed Shredder Portfolio Series. This edition features a new long poem by Miles Champion radically transformed by artist Jane South. Conceived as the deconstructed tools needed to create a do-it-yourself artist book, each linen-bound portfolio box contains 10 sheets of museum board into which the lines of the poem have been reconfigured as laser-cut tabs. These tabs can be popped out and bolted together to create a gorgeous, highly tactile text-sculpture where a simple twist of the tabs completely changes the reading of the words.
For each limited edition in the Shredder Portfolio Series, an artist and writer are invited to collaborate on a project directly addressing the exciting and unpredictable relationship between text and image. The only parameter is that the edition must be housed in a hardbound portfolio. Past collaborators include Brice Brown, Chuck Webster, Trevor Winkfield, and John Yau. They are included in such public collections as the Baltimore Museum of Art, Dartmouth College’s Rauner Special Collections Library, the Speed Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Yale University Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, among others.
